Firefighters successfully extinguished a large field fire in Wickham Bishops yesterday after being called to the scene in Langford Road.

The incident began at 4.39pm when a combine harvester caught fire, leading to flames spreading across 18 hectares of stubble and bales.

A statement from Essex Fire & Rescue Service said: "We were called to a combine harvester alight in Langford Road today at 4.39pm."

"Crews from several locations, including Chelmsford, Colchester, Ingatestone, Leaden Roding, Maldon, Tiptree, and Witham, responded promptly, supported by resources like a water bowser from Halstead, an off-road vehicle from Billericay, and a drone from the Urban Search and Rescue team.

"Crews stopped the fire from spreading and protected nearby properties, extinguishing it by 6.14pm. They left the scene shortly after 7pm."
