Three members of the same family have been jailed for over seven years in total after creating, performing, and distributing neo-Nazi music that stirred up racial hatred and promoted far-right terrorism.

Robert Talland, 59, and his adult children Stephen, 36, and Rosie, 33, all from Essex, were sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court yesterday after being found guilty in June following a nine-week trial.

Robert Talland was jailed for four years, with an extra year on licence, and given a 10-year Terrorism Notification Order. He must also pay court costs from cash seized at his home.

Stephen was sentenced to two years in prison, and Rosie received 18 months.

All three were found guilty of stirring up racial hatred through neo-Nazi music. Robert was also convicted of disseminating terrorist material.

They were behind the white power band Embers of an Empire, managed by Robert and performed in by Stephen and Rosie. He also ran Rampage Productions, a label distributing racist CDs, and was a key figure in the far-right Blood & Honour movement.

Their arrest followed a year-long investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, with a 2019 gig in Leeds at the centre of the case. The court saw footage of the band performing racist songs while audience members gave Nazi salutes — including children.

Police later found hundreds of white power CDs, neo-Nazi banners, and extremist material at Robert’s home.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Dunkerley said the family had helped spread hate and violent ideology across Europe for years and were part of a network encouraging racist violence.

All three were ordered to surrender their electronic devices and memorabilia for destruction and must pay a victim surcharge.
