Essex trust port launches graduate programme for maritime careers
Harwich Haven Authority seeks to nurture new talent with hands-on experience
Harwich Haven Authority (HHA), an Essex-based trust port, has announced its first-ever graduate programme aimed at cultivating the next generation of maritime talent.
The initiative provides aspiring mariners, engineers, communications specialists, and office staff with practical experience at one of the UK's busiest and most crucial waterways.
The two-year programme offers graduates the opportunity to work across various departments, tackle real-world projects, solve business challenges, and significantly contribute to the future of HHA.
Vanessa Mann, Head of People & Culture at HHA, emphasised the value of the initiative: "At Harwich Haven Authority we live and breathe our employee value proposition – where work means more. That means not only providing opportunities for the next generation to enter our industry, but to truly immerse them in the world of maritime and the genuine impacts our work has on our communities, the economy and the environment."
She further explained that the programme includes supporting operational teams in facilitating the arrival of the world's largest ships, maintaining the fleet, handling communications, and managing financial matters.
"We want every graduate to experience the vast scope of opportunities available to them in the fantastic world of maritime," Mann added.
HHA is fostering early career development through its successful apprenticeship scheme and membership in 'The 5% Club', a group of businesses with at least 5% of staff in 'earn and learn' positions.
Applications for the four available graduate positions are now open until 4th October 2023.
