Essex Police are investigating a series of fires on abandoned land in Harlow.

These incidents, which have all happened this month, involved derelict sheds, a garage, and a parked vehicle catching fire on empty land off Third Avenue

Police are conducting enquiries and have yet to establish whether the fires are linked.

As part of the investigation, regular patrols will be carried out in the area, and officers are collaborating with council colleagues to assess potential measures like improved lighting or CCTV.

Residents with information or footage that could help are encouraged to come forward.

Chief Inspector Emily Holmes addressed the situation, saying:

“We understand the concern these incidents will cause locally and want to reassure residents that we are taking them extremely seriously.

“We’re working closely with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the local council and other partners to build a clear picture of what’s happening and to reduce the risk of further fires.

“Where criminal offences are identified, we will pursue them robustly and take action against those responsible.”
