18 arrested during crackdown on drink and drug driving in Castle Point and Rochford
Officers also seized 7 vehicles and caught a man wanted for domestic assault
Officers from Essex Police’s Road Safety Team conducted a successful enforcement operation in Castle Point and Rochford aimed at reducing harm on the roads.
Operation Limit, carried out on Saturday 20th June, focused on targeting drink and drug driving offences, while demonstrating the wider reach of roads policing in combating criminal activities.
During the operation, 18 arrests were made, 15 of which were related to drink or drug driving offences.
Roadside tests indicated the presence of cannabis and cocaine in several cases.
Additionally, Essex Police dealt with a range of criminal offences, showcasing the role of the road network in identifying and stopping offenders.
A disqualified driver abandoned his car in Canvey and attempted to escape but was swiftly located and arrested for multiple offences, including failing to stop for police, careless driving, and driving whilst disqualified.
In another incident, a driver was apprehended after speeding at 42mph in a 30mph zone and failing a roadside drug test.
His vehicle was seized, aided by public support in locating him.
The operation's results included issuing 114 Traffic Offence Reports for various traffic infractions and detecting 230 speeding offences, with 210 occurring in 30mph zones.
In total, seven vehicles were seized during the day’s activities.
