Essex Police made 23 arrests, including 22 for drink or drug driving, during a targeted road safety operation on Friday 31st October.

The intensive day of action also uncovered 76 traffic offences, resulting in 23 vehicles being seized. Additionally, 88 drivers were caught speeding in 30mph zones using TRUCAM speed detection devices.

The operation was part of Essex Police’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of drink and drug driving, particularly during busy weekends such as Halloween and payday.

Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing, said the arrests demonstrate the scale of the issue and the importance of such operations:

“The number of arrests we’ve seen is staggering. Whether it’s Halloween, payday, or just another weekend, it shows the scale of the problem we face. These operations are essential in making our roads safer and holding dangerous drivers to account."

He added: “Essex Police will continue to run proactive operations to target those who put lives at risk.”

The force reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drink and drug driving and protecting all road users. Similar operations are expected to continue in the future to make Essex’s roads safer.
