Essex Police close review into fentanyl murderer
Police were looking into further charges against Luke D'Wit

Essex Police have confirmed they have closed a review into whether fentanyl killer Luke D'Wit was a serial murderer.
The 37 year old is serving a life sentence with a minimum term of 37 years for the murders of Stephen and Carol Baxter.
Over the course of nine years D'Wit manipulated the Baxters, creating false identities and recommending supposed health drinks, ultimately leading to their deaths by fentanyl and promethazine poisoning.
The couple's daughter Ellena found her parents dead in their armchairs in their West Mersea home in April 2023.
Essex Police Review
Following D'wit's conviction in 2024 Essex Police launched a review into whether to bring new charges against him.
Detectives reportedly reviewed the deaths of D’Wit’s father and grandfather in case he had killed them and avoided detection.
The force say the review did not identify any grounds for further charges against D'Wit after extensive witness accounts and forensic analyses were conducted.
Consultations with the Crown Prosecution Service reaffirmed the decision, and all parties involved have been duly informed.
A spokesperson said: "Should anything additional come to light which requires investigation, we will not hesitate to act. "
The Essex Millionaire Murders
In April 2025 ITV aired a two part true-crime documentary which received critical acclaim.
The Essex Millionaire Murders explored the complex investigation into the Baxters' deaths.
The programme features interviews with key Essex Police officers, including Detective Inspector Lydia George and several detectives, who played crucial roles in securing justice for the Baxter family.
