Essex Police have shared plans to keep people safe, with a notable focus on improving road safety across the region.

In a statement published on their website, the force outlined their commitment to reducing harm on Essex’s roads as part of a wider strategy for public security. The police aim to ensure drivers are adhering to the rules of the road and to lower the number of accidents caused by unsafe driving.

Traffic officers will continue to monitor roads across Essex, targeting reckless driving and other offences, such as driving under the influence. By enforcing road safety laws, Essex Police aim to create safer conditions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing at the force, said: "We know from the fatals that have happened last year and this year, speed impairment and careless driving are prime causation factors.

"So our focus is this: you are going to see more and more speed enforcement, more and more drink and drug driving enforcement and more focus on careless driving as well."

The force stated that community engagement is central to their strategy, encouraging people to raise any concerns about dangerous driving or safety issues in their area.

‘We are committed to making our roads safer for everyone,’ Essex Police said. ‘Through proactive action and partnership working, we are determined to save lives and prevent harm.’

Adam added that motorists "expect the unexpected" over the festive period, adding that icy and wet roads will make driving more unsafe - which only highlights the need to be aware of the road.

This renewed focus on road safety is part of Essex Police’s broader pledge to enhance security and wellbeing across the county.
