A man has been charged with a series of offences following an incident of inappropriate behaviour in Epping earlier this week.

Officers were called to High Road at around 5.20pm on Tuesday, 8 July, and swiftly arrested a suspect at the scene.

Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, of High Road, Epping, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, one count of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, and one count of harassment without violence.

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 10 July.

Superintendent Tim Tubbs acknowledged the community concern:

“We understand the public interest in this case, but we must limit comment while legal proceedings are ongoing. That said, the local impact of this incident is not lost on me.”

He confirmed that targeted patrols have been increased in the area:

“These officers are there to offer reassurance. Please speak to them if you have any concerns.”

Supt Tubbs also praised the public:

“Thanks to those who made reports quickly, we were able to arrest a suspect, gather statements, and move rapidly towards a prosecution.”
