An energy project launched by Colchester Citizens Advice is aiming to help people "not get into energy crisis".
Greatest Hits Radio Essex has spoken to Katharine Liu, from Citizens Advice Colchester, about the energy project and its goals.
She said:
"The energy project really is to try and help people not get into energy crisis, which means they have not got any fuel to heat their home, but also to try and help people plan further forward.
"Because I appreciate we've had some really good weather and it might not be at the forefront of people's minds, but if you're struggling with your energy bills now, the chances are you will really struggle when that cold weather hits."
She also discussed their goals for the project:
"So our goals is to make sure we're talking to people, reaching the most vulnerable people, and having a chat about their energy bills. Are they on top of it? Do they need any help to talk to their supplier? Do they know what their options are?
"Could they actually get any grants that are available to try and make their homes more energy efficient? Or could we just have simple chats about the things that all of us can do to try and be more energy efficient which will help save those pennies."
Katharine gave some tips about how to save money on energy:
"So if we look at energy on a basic level, making sure people know who their supplier is, do they know what tariff they're on, if you know what tariff you're on and who your energy supplier is, then you could look into, are you actually on the best tariff.
"You know, speak to your energy supplier, see if you can get those bills a bit cheaper. Also, the warm how homes discount which will start in October. Could they be eligible for that? "
The service is available for contact, and they encourage people that are concerned over their bills to contact their team.
