Essex Police crack down on drink and drug driving during Operation Limit
Essex Police arrested a driver twice in a single day during Operation Limit in the Colchester district on 19th June.
The individual was first arrested on suspicion of drug driving after failing a roadside drug test, then released from custody only to be stopped again later that day and failing a second drug test.
Operation Limit aimed to reduce harm on Essex’s roads through targeted enforcement against drink and drug driving.
Drug driving laws exist to prevent impaired judgement, slowed reactions, and unpredictability, all of which endanger drivers, passengers, and other road users.
Essex Police regularly encounter drivers who believe they are unaffected by drugs but are in fact unfit to drive, posing significant risk to safety.
On 19th June, Essex Police also arrested a driver and passenger for suspected possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Additionally, a motorist was captured travelling at 103mph in a 40mph zone, significantly increasing the severity of any potential collision, and another driver arrested for drug driving, marking his seventh such arrest since 2017.
The operation led to 18 arrests, 16 of which involved drink or drug driving.
Further results included the detection of 440 speeding offences, the issuance of 93 Traffic Offence Reports, and the seizure of nine vehicles.
Essex Police's Road Safety Team emphasises that drug driving is unacceptable. Operations like Op Limit use intelligence-led patrols to remove dangerous drivers from roads and disrupt criminal activities.
