Dozens of firefighters have been tackling a large field fire in East Bergholt, on the border between Suffolk and Essex.

Emergency services were alerted at 6:48pm on Saturday (24 July) to reports of a fire in a stubble field on Putticks Lane.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said approximately 80 hectares of cut straw, trees and hedgerow were alight.

Eighteen fire vehicles were sent to the scene, with a road closure from Heath Road to Mill Road.

People living nearby were advised to close windows and doors.

In an update on Saturday night, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: "Good progress has been made in tackling the fire, which is now under control.

"Crews will remain on site to manage the incident and continue dampening down."
