Council and police operation fights fly-tipping in Epping Forest
Operation Waxen is a joint initiative between the council and police
A joint council and police operation to tackle fly tipping in Epping Forest has seen a "significant impact in known hotspots".
Since June, high-visibility operations have seen council officers and police carrying out patrols to target known fly-tipping locations.
The authorities are focussed on prevention, enforcement and engagement with drivers of waste-carrying vehicles to ensure they hold the correct licenses and documentation. Unlicensed waste carriers face fines or prosecution, and sometimes vehicle seizure.
Fern Hill Lane, on the borders of Epping and Harlow, has been identified as a key focus spot for the operation. Previously tons of waste has been dumped along the lane.
Since the beginning of the operation, no further incidents have been recorded there. The location is being monitored by regular patrols and CCTV.
The council says it "remains committed to working closely with Essex Police to deter environmental crime, protect local communities and ensure that waste is transported and disposed of legally."
They are encouraging residents to report incidents of fly-tipping or suspicious waste-related activity.
