Homes at Meadgate Avenue in Chelmsford were evacuated overnight as a safety precaution - after police discovered concerning items at a property.

What's been called a "precautionary measure" was taken last night (Tue 9th June) and follows the arrest of two people and a warrant being executed.

A 34 year old man from the town was detained on suspicion of offences under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1883, whilst a woman who's 33 is also being held over the incident.

A 100 metre cordon was put in place for several hours and lifted in the early hours today (Wed 10th June) with a suspicious item recovered without any issue according to Essex Police.
