Colchester man charged with multiple serious sexual assault offences

A man has been charged following an investigation into a serious sexual assault in the Greenstead area of Colchester.

Today (20 May) a man has been charged with nine offences.

Police launched an investigation after an incident took place in a path between The Chase and Stanley Wooster Way at about 11pm on Monday 4 May.

A woman reported being approached by a man and sexually assaulted.

19-year-old Christopher Flomo has subsequently been charged with seven counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

Flomo, of awthorn Avenue, Colchester, will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 21 May.

Detective Inspector Tim Coyles, who is leading the investigation, said:

“This is clearly a significant step forward in this investigation.

“It is an one in which we reached out to the public for information which ultimately meant we were able to identify a person of interest and work alongside the Crown Prosecution Service to secure charges.”

DI Coyles added:

“I’m acutely aware this incident has impacted the Greenstead community and I would again like to thank that community for coming forward and speaking to us – and trusting us with that information.”
