Colchester Castle to undergo urgent roof repairs with £1.3m funding boost
Essential works will begin in January to tackle damp issues and preserve historic landmark
Colchester Castle will undergo urgent roof repairs after Colchester Museums secured £1.3 million in government funding.
The grant, awarded through the Museums Estate and Development Fund and supported by Colchester City Council, will fund work to tackle long-standing damp issues and repair stonework on the Castle’s northwest tower.
Construction is set to begin in January 2026 and continue until August, with fencing remaining in place. The Castle will stay open to visitors throughout the project.
The work is being carried out in partnership with Historic England to ensure repairs protect the Castle’s historic fabric for future generations.
