A woman who stabbed a man more than 30 times has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Thirty-six-year-old Lucinda Fyfield was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court today (20 December) after a 39-year-old man was found with life-threatening injuries in Clacton earlier this year.

On 11 May 2024, Fyfield and the victim visited a self-storage unit in Colchester.

The unit she visited contained various household items including the contents of a kitchen, having emptied her house in Gilders Way, Clacton.

The prosecution alleged this may have been where the weapon used to attack the victim, a 12-inch kitchen knife, was obtained

Later that day she and the victim went to the address in Clacton, where once inside she attacked him.

Fyfield left the man with in excess of 30 stab wounds, five of which were considered life-threatening by paramedics.

During the attack, while the victim was seriously injured, she stopped to smoke a cigarette.

She then called 999 and tried to take her own life, before emergency services forced their way into the property and began urgently treating them both.

The victim was taken to hospital where surgeons said the quick work of paramedics and police officers at the scene may have been the actions that saved his life.

Fyfield was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and, after being discharged from hospital, charged and remanded in custody before her trial began on Monday 16 December.

The jury deliberated for just 54 minutes on Friday 20 December before finding her guilty.

She must serve at least two-thirds of her sentence in prison and was also given an indefinite restraining order.

Speaking at sentencing, HHJ Loram described Fyfield’s actions as “sheer gratuitous cruelty”.

They said: “When stopping her frenzied attack for a cigarette, she then proceeded to burn her critically ill victim.

It was sheer luck you didn’t kill him, but his injuries and scars will last a lifetime.

You showed a wholesale lack of remorse.”

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Madison Duffus said: “Firstly I want to thank the officers and paramedics who were first on the scene.

Their quick thinking gave the victim in this case the best chance of surviving an undeniably terrible attack.

We are glad the jury in this case agreed with our case – that Fyfield planned to stab this man and went out of her way to make sure she had a weapon.

With a knife of this size there is no doubt in my mind she would have known how serious the injuries she would inflict were.

Fyfield has proven herself to be a pathological liar and very dangerous individual.

Despite the months between this incident and the trial, she has never offered an explanation for this attack, or showed any remorse.

Her actions could only have amounted to attempted murder.”
