£2million Clacton Leisure Centre plans to feature pump track and padel courts
The leisure centre development is part of a larger initiative
Plans for a £2million development at Clacton Leisure Centre have been submitted.
A pump track designed for BMX, scooters, and skateboards will allow free access to riders.
The proposed development by Tendring District Council also includes a learn-to-ride facility and new play equipment to replace the current playground.
In addition to these offerings, the council aims to create a space for racket sports, featuring two covered padel courts, which will be available for hire year-round.
Councillor Mick Barry, who manages Leisure & Public Realm, shared his enthusiasm for the project: “This is a huge milestone for this project which has the potential to provide huge benefits for residents for years to come in terms of physical and mental health, social opportunities and much more."
The planning application will be subject to approval by TDC’s planning committee later this year.
The leisure centre development is part of a larger initiative supported by Alliance Leisure and funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's Community Regeneration Partnership. This £20million programme targets revitalising Clacton and Jaywick Sands.
Additional upgrades at the centre include refurbishing the fitness changing rooms, installing a low-carbon heating system, and establishing a Football Foundation PlayZone.
Cllr Barry expressed optimism about the renovations: “These improvements will further establish the leisure centre as a key destination for people to be active, together.”
