A children’s nursery being planned next to a popular hotel on one of the main roads into Brentwood would have a noise-insulating fence as part of the proposals.

Applicant Tree House Premier Child Care Ltd, known as The Treehouse Club, say the plans for a nursery next to the Holiday Inn are part of their response to the demand for child care and pre-school facilities in the area.

They want to build a modular building on an underused car park on the site to accommodate a day nursery providing up to 68 places for children aged three months to five years old. An acoustic fence is also proposed to reduce the impact of traffic noise on the site.

Tree House Premier Child Care Ltd added that the application is “strongly supported” by the operators of the hotel in order to make best use of what is an “otherwise underused area of car park”.

They add that there is a “significant shortage” of early years places, and so parents have little choice about where to place their children, or may not even be able to find any early years education places for their children.

They say there is existing demand in the vicinity of the site, but with so much growth planned, the proposal is also seeking to meet future demand as it develops.

A statement as part of a planning application said: “The new nursery is proposed in response to demand for nursery and pre-school places and the present chronic lack of places, partly in response to the Government’s 30-hour funding regime for childcare.

“There is evidence of very strong demand for more childcare provision in Brentwood, and the applicants are well placed to provide this by making effective use of the building and its land.

“The immediate vicinity has employment areas with new commercial development proposed over the next few years. All employers benefit from access to well-located, high-quality childcare facilities, enabling them to attract and retain staff.”

It adds: “The building and play areas for any children’s day nursery need to be surrounded by a fence for security and safeguarding reasons, in this instance, the fence is also proposed to acoustic standards in order to mitigate traffic noise impacts.”
