Man charged with ignoring town centre ban
John Kurzynski is charged with eight counts of failing to comply with a community protection notice which banned him from entering the town centre
A Braintree man has been charged with ignoring a community protection notice banning him from the town centre.
He is also charged with failing to comply with restrictions imposed by the town’s public spaces protection order (PSPO).
John Kurzynski, 71, of South Street, was arrested by a neighbourhood officer in the High Street on 23 August.
He is due to appear before Chelmsford magistrates on 2 October, charged with eight counts of failing to comply with a community protection notice which banned him from entering the town centre PSPO zone.
He is also accused of twice refusing to surrender alcohol when requested by a police officer or a designated officer in the PSPO zone and he also faces one charge under the Public Order Act 1986.
Kurzynski has been bailed until the hearing with a condition not to enter the Braintree town centre PSPO zone.
Braintree District Council introduced the PSPO in September 2024 to tackle anti-social behaviour in the town centre. It was amended on 1 June 2026 to include a condition not to drink alcohol in a manner that may be anti-social, while failure to surrender alcohol to a designated officer became an offence.
