Castle Point Council is looking to extend a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) aimed at tackling dangerous driving and antisocial behaviour by “boy racers” on Canvey Island.

The current order, which covers Haven Road, Canvey Road, and Roscommon Way including the Charfleets Industrial Estate, prohibits behaviours such as racing, excessive noise, and actions that endanger the public or cause nuisance.

The proposed extension would add areas including Waterside Farm Leisure Centre Car Park, Northwick Road, the Thamesview A130 Business Park, and Fenttiman Road.

These areas have faced repeated issues with large gatherings, noise, and reckless driving, the council said.

Councillor Russ Savage explained the move targets the areas most affected, adding: “Without a doubt, this is what residents are telling us they want.”

The council is consulting the public on the proposed changes, which would see the order renewed for another three years.
