A 29-year-old man has been jailed for three years after using the nickname ‘Al Capone’ to try and hide his drug-dealing activities in Brentwood.

Zak Nsubuga, of Vian Avenue in Enfield, was identified by police as running a drug line from Enfield into Brentwood. Despite registering his phone under the name of the infamous gangster, Essex Police tracked him down and arrested him in September.

When officers entered his home, Nsubuga attempted to dispose of a blue bag and escape through his bedroom window but was detained.

During the search of his property, police found seven mobile phones, a large bundle containing individual deal wraps, a significant amount of cash, and drug preparation equipment.

Nsubuga was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, and acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.

He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 5th September, where he admitted all charges. His sentence of three years in prison was delivered at Wood Green Crown Court on 17th November.

The investigation was led by Essex Police’s anti-drug and gang team, Operation Raptor.

Detective Sergeant Tom Whelan-Bassett said: “By the time Nsubuga was arrested, he had no idea of the strength of the case we already had against him, which ultimately meant he was quickly charged and appeared in court the next day – and admitted all offences.

“And whilst he’s in a prison cell, we’ll also be pursuing him to seize all available assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act and recoup every penny we can on behalf of the law-abiding public.”

The authorities are now in the process of recovering assets through the Proceeds of Crime Act to ensure any profit gained from Nsubuga’s activities is returned to the public.
