Fire crews tackle hotel blaze near Braintree Bypass
Heavy smoke reported from loft, Colchester's aerial ladder aids firefighting efforts
Seven fire crews have successfully extinguished a blaze at a hotel near the Braintree Bypass.
Crews were called to the incident at 4:53pm on Saturday (7th February).
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke emanating from the hotel's loft space and requested an Aerial Ladder Platform from Colchester to assist.
Station Manager Paul Champ praised the quick actions of the crews.
“Crews worked quickly to put the fire out and we’ll start to scale the incident down in the next hour to two crews,” Champ said.
Firefighters are currently using the aerial ladder to dismantle the hotel roof in order to extinguish remaining hotspots.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.
Crews from Chelmsford, Coggeshall, Halstead, Great Dunmow, Thaxted, and Colchester attended the scene to ensure the fire was controlled, with monitoring ongoing to prevent rekindling.
