Two women have been charged with the murder of Helen Bloomfield, who died in Braintree nearly two years ago.

Helen Bloomfield, 52, was found dead at her home on Aetheric Road on 19th April 2024.

Her death was initially treated as unexpected, and later inquiries revealed it to be suspicious.

Since her death, authorities have conducted an extensive investigation led by the Serious Crime Directorate.

Amy Keely, 40, of no fixed address, and Charlotte James, 29, of St Michaels Lane, Braintree have both been charged with murder.

The two women appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 9th April 2026.

They are set to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 13th April.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood is overseeing the case.

“Helen was found in unusual circumstances, and we believe that she had been dead for several weeks.

“Over the last two years investigators have carefully considered the evidence and have now been given the authority by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge both Amy Keely and Charlotte James with Helen’s murder.

“Our thoughts remain with Helen’s family who have endured an incredibly difficult two years following her death.”
