Fire in disused building prompts serious police inquiry

Four boys, aged between 12 and 14, have been arrested in connection with an arson investigation following a fire at a disused building in Maplin Way, Shoebury.

Emergency services responded to the blaze shortly after 7pm on 6th June.

While no injuries were reported, the fire caused considerable damage to the building.

Following the investigation, the boys were arrested on suspicion of arson, questioned, and later released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Steve Franklin, from Southend CID, emphasised the seriousness of the incident and the ongoing investigative efforts.

He said, “I know this incident was widely witnessed and I want our community to know that it is being taken extremely seriously. Four boys have been arrested and released on bail and our investigation will now progress appropriately.”

Community members are assured that the police remain committed to addressing the incident and holding those responsible accountable.
