Blackshots tower blocks set for demolition
Three vacant tower blocks will be removed to address anti-social behaviour
Three tower blocks in Blackshots are slated for demolition by January 2028 following Cabinet approval of plans to dismantle the vacant structures.
Residents vacated the blocks over a year ago and have since been rehoused, leaving the buildings empty and susceptible to issues such as anti-social behaviour, vandalism, and fly-tipping.
The demolition is expected to help alleviate these problems, with new security measures put in place to maintain site safety once clearance is complete.
Community Involvement in Demolition Plans
Residents' opinions were sought during the planning process, with their concerns incorporated into the final demolition plans. The Housing Service Tenants’ Panel was engaged in discussions and has expressed support for the Cabinet-approved plans.
Next Steps in the Demolition Process
The council will soon initiate a procurement process to select a demolition contractor. It is imperative that contractors propose and agree on measures to minimise dust, noise, and disruption for local residents prior to commencing work.
Efforts are focused on completing the demolition by January 2028.
