Castle Point Council has announced that waste collections will take place earlier than usual this week due to high temperatures.

The change will affect collections on Wednesday 9, Thursday 10, and Friday 11 July, as forecasters predict temperatures could reach up to 29°C across the borough.

A spokesperson for the council said: “We’re sending our collection crews out early a few days this week to avoid some of the hot weather. Please present your waste before 6:45am this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to avoid your collection being missed.”

The decision follows similar action taken during last week’s heat, when collections were brought forward on Friday 4 July. Colchester Council also suspended recycling collections on 1 July due to extreme temperatures.

Deputy leader of Castle Point Council, Warren Gibson, said: “We’re expecting warmer weather than normal for this time of year, and it’s important we protect the health of our waste collection teams. This adjustment helps us avoid disruptions and maintain the service.”

The Met Office has forecast highs of 27°C to 29°C for Canvey Island and surrounding areas over the coming days.
