Fire crews battle blaze affecting terraced houses in Basildon
Firefighters were called out on Sunday evening
Firefighters have been working to bring a fire under control that is affecting a row of terraced houses near Rookyards in Basildon.
The fire broke out shortly before 7:30pm on Sunday (21 June) which prompted safety warnings to residents in the area to keep their windows and doors shut and to avoid the scene.
Crews used an aerial ladder platform to gain access to and extinguish flames affecting several roofs in the row of houses.
Incident Commander Justin Mackerness stated:
"The fire is under control and crews are working to extinguish the remaining parts of the terraced row that remain alight.
"We'd like to thank the local community for their patience while we continue to deal with the incident as we head into the night."
A comprehensive fire investigation will follow once conditions are deemed safe.
