A 25-year-old asylum seeker, who attacked two security guards on the RAF base in Essex where he was living, has been ordered to do unpaid work and pay compensation to his victims.

Adnani Mohammed, formerly of RAF Wethersfield in Braintree, repeatedly headbutted and kicked the security personnel in what has vbeen labelled a "persistent" attack.

Basildon Magistrates Court heard how he had recently arrived in the UK before the attacks took place late last year.

Appearing via videolink from Preston Prison, Mr Mohammed told the court his English was good enough to be able to carry out unpaid work, and he is willing to pay compensation.

He was found guilty of two counts of assault by beating at Colchester Magistrates Court on 4 February.

Chairman of the Magistrates bench, Richard Lehman, said: “This was a totally unacceptable way to behave against two security guards who were just doing their jobs."

He was ordered to complete 150 hours unpaid work, pay £400 in court costs, £150 to the victim he headbutted and £100 to the other guard who was kicked.

He was told he must pay £50 per month.
