Air weapons stolen from lorry in Basildon
81 weapons were stolen in total
An investigation is underway in Basildon after a large haul of air weapons were stolen from a lorry.
The theft was reported to Essex Police after the driver of the lorry discovered suspects had entered his vehicle while it was parked in Paycocke Road between 8.30pm on Thursday (19 February) and 4.30am on Friday (20 February). 81 low powered air weapons were taken.
Police say no arrests have been made so far but several lines of enquiry are being pursued.
Detective Inspector Marcus Dodd, who is leading the investigation, is asking anyone with information to come forward:
“Paycocke Road is a main road which runs through the Cranes Farm industrial area, so we know it’s a road used 24-hours a day and we also know there are businesses in the area which will have CCTV.
“I’m urging anyone who was driving in the area in the timeframe to please check their dashcam. Equally, to the businesses in the area, if there is CCTV on your premises, please check it.
“The lorry is a white DAF and was parked in Paycocke Road between Trafertier International Transport and Amari House when the theft took place.
“We’re releasing images of the two types of air weapon taken and I would also ask that should anyone be offered these items or comes across them for sale, please alert us.”
