Lucy Halliday has shot to fame in recent months, following her portrayal of the one of the lead characters in new dystopian series The Testaments — but did you know the young actress who plays Daisy is actually Scottish?

Her incredibly convincing American-Canadian accent in The Handmaid's Tale spin-off had us all fooled, but she's now revealed she picked it up by using a two-minute YouTube tutorial, before a Zoom call to bag the job.

In an interview with American talk show, Live With Kelly and Mark, Lucy said: "I put in more work afterwards" but "that was the bulk of my preparation". She said: "As a kid I did accents all the time growing up with my brother, so I have loved doing them, but it wasn't like I did a lot of professional training.

"When I had my Zoom call with the showrunner to get the job, I watched a YouTube video that was called 'How to do an American accent in two minutes' before I went on the call."

Lucy, who is from Paisley, said she's had mixed reactions to viewers finding out she's ACTUALLY Scottish — telling Kelly and Mark: "I must have done OK with the accent."

And it appears her fans agree, with one taking to social media to write: 'Listen, I’m Canadian with a Scottish granny. Her accent was very Canadian. She aced it!!'

As The Testaments fans will remember, Lucy's character, Daisy, spent at least some of her childhood in Toronto, Canada.

When asked about her real home town — which is located just outside of Glasgow — Lucy proudly told the show's hosts: "I love Glasgow as much as I love Paisley", calling her birthplace "a weaving town".

Lucy's portrayal of Pearl Girl Daisy in The Testaments is her first major role, following parts in 2022 movie Blue Jean and 2025 comedy, California Schemin', set across London and Dundee.
