Richard, who also left his role on quiz show Pointless in 2022, thanked fans online for their kind messages.

He wrote on Instagram: 'Thank you for all your kind words as I step down from #HouseOfGames after 9 amazing years It is honestly the most fun show to work on, with the most wonderful team, but, after 800 episodes it's time to hand over the keys to a new host. There are plenty of new episodes still to air though, and I'll even be filming one final handover week later in the year! It really has been a treat from start to finish'. (sic)

Richard has been the host of the show since series one first hit screens way back in 2017. To date there's been nine series, as well as a number of festive specials, with well known celebs such as Tyler West, Joe Marler, Joe Swash, Molly Rainford, Jordan Banjo, Bonnie Langford and Joanna Page all taking part over the years.

In recent years, Richard has turned his attention to writing novels, penning the best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club series, with the debut book landing in 2020.

In 2025, the first novel was adapted into a movie by Netflix, starring Dame Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Pierce Brosnan, and Sir Ben Kingsley, and it's safe to say it was a huge hit, receiving over 10 million viewers in the first month of its release.

With fans crying out for more, lead actress Dame Helen Mirren told Greatest Hits Radio's Ken Bruce: "I think we're going back to do another series of MobLand, which is a series I did with Pierce. So I'm hoping that we do and we're kind of crossing our fingers that we might do another Murder Club. Another Thursday Murder Club that would be... we'd love to."
