Ahead of next month's release of All Creatures Great and Small series seven, TV channel 5 have now released the first look photos and further details of the cast who will be joining the popular series. To date All Creatures Great and Small has become 5’s most successful drama series.

Based on the James Herriot’s much-loved books, which also spawned the long-running TV series between the 70s and 90s, the show returns viewers to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, set in 1946.

What is series 7 about?

A synopsis for series seven reads: ‘Series 7 of All Creatures Great and Small returns viewers to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in 1946. With the war finally over, Skeldale House is full once again and livelier than ever as our beloved characters reunite under one roof and look ahead to a hopeful new chapter.

'James is excited about new developments in veterinary medicine, but a new vet in the area threatens the status quo. The world at large may be changing, but inside this slice of Yorkshire, the Dales will always offer the same perfect escapism. Packed with warmth, humour and community spirit, the series brings more heartwarming tales of people and animals alike.’

New for series seven, Caolan McCarthy (Belfast, Cyrano De Bergerac: the RSC) will play the new rival vet Granville Bennett. Caolan will also be joined by a host of new actors who have yet to be announced.

When will series 7 air on TV?

An exact date has not yet been confirmed, but it will be in September 2026.

How many episodes are there?

There will be six 60 minute episodes along with a Christmas special.

Will there be an eighth series?

Yes there will, back in November 2025 series seven and eight were announced. At the time, Greg Barnett, Commissioning Editor, 5 said: "All Creatures Great and Small is a jewel in 5’s drama crown and continues to delight viewers year after year. Its warmth, humour and heart, set against the beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm audience favourite. We’re thrilled to extend its future with two more series, with many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead for our Skeldale family."
