The Beatles receive first BRIT nomination since 1977
Their final song 'Now and Then' has been nominated
For the first time in nearly 50 years The Beatles have been nominated for a BRIT Award with Mastercard. The band have been nominated for Song of The Year with Mastercard for their final ever song ‘Now and Then’.
‘Now and Then’ was a highly anticipated release when it arrived on 2nd November 2023. The song was created from the original recordings and the use of AI to isolate John Lennon’s vocals. Sir Paul and Sir Ringo finished recording the song back in 2022, which features George Harrison's electric and acoustic guitar recorded back in 1995.
Speaking at the time of the song’s release, Paul said: "There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023 to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”
The song’s release was preceded by a documentary showing the process used to create the song, including footage right back to the early days of the song’s creation.
The Beatles were first nominated for a BRIT Award in 1977, the year that the prestigious award ceremony started. The band were nominated for several awards.
They won awards for Best British Album for ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band’, Best British Pop Group and Outstanding Contributions to the Recording Industry. Their song ‘She Loves You’ was also nominated for Best British Pop Single, but lost out to Procol Harum’s ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’, and Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
This year, The Beatles find themselves up against artists such as Coldplay, former Eurovision representative Sam Ryder and Little Mix singer JADE.
