Shania Twain reveals who her ideal headliner would be for the Super Bowl
She took us through significant dates in her career
Shania Twain has had quite the career, starting way back in the early 90s, but it was in the late 90s that she had her breakthrough with songs like 'Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You)', 'You're Still the One' and her UK Top 3 songs 'That Don't Impress Me Much' and 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!'.
Now as the singer has taken to the stage, supporting Harry Styles at Wembley, she joined us at Greatest Hits Radio for Dear Diary, taking us through some of her milestone dates in her career, from the release of 'Any Man of Mine', to performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show, and up to the present day with the imminent release of her album 'Little Miss Twain'.
Who does Shania Twain want to headline the Super Bowl halftime show?
Every year the rumours start with who could be headlining the Super Bowl. Back in 2003, Shania headlined the iconic gig along with No Doubt and Sting, and now she's offered her views on who she thinks would be great as the next headline act.
"I think my favourite person to do the halftime show for Super Bowl would be Taylor Swift, she's ticking all the boxes," Shania explained.
"Everybody wants to see Taylor Swift do a halftime show. She's glamorous. She's going to bring style and fashion. She's going to bring all the familiar songs. I think that she's the ideal halftime Super Bowl artist. So yeah, waiting for that one."
Being Harry Styles' special guest
Shania is in the UK at the moment joining Harry Styles on his record-breaking run of 12 dates at Wembley. While chatting to us she revealed she felt "flattered" to be asked to be his special guest.
"It is not just the first time that I've played this stadium, and it's just such a historic venue," she explained. "This was somebody that respects my music, asked me, I think, from his heart, and is a fan, and we share a mutual love of each other's talents. It's special and it's personal."
New album 'Little Miss Twain'
On 24th July, Shania is set to release her latest album called 'Little Miss Twain', inspired by her childhood. The singer described the album as her: "Two feet on the ground album."
She went on to describe the album as: "One big, long story with several chapters themed from my reflection of my first years on stage from the age of eight-years-old all the way up till I made it to Nashville, Tennessee for my major record label contract.
"And it's a long period of time that I've never depicted in song and ‘Little Miss Twain’ is telling that whole story."
She also opened up about one of her favourite songs on the album called 'Rock Stars'.
"I've never been so obsessed with one of my own songs ever, I don't think," she admitted. "But there's just something about the reflection of a time in my life when I would escape into the woods and, you know, with friends or my sister or a boyfriend and… Just rough it for a weekend and be a teenager, which I didn't get to do very often because I was either on stage or working for my parents or working! Basically, work, school, work, school.
"So being a teenager is what ‘Rock Stars’ is all about. The freedom of being just a regular teenager, out in the forest, fire burning all weekend, flask of whiskey. When you run out of food, somebody, you know, goes into town and gets a few more things and life is great. And that moment is really frozen in time for me. It's framed like a photograph.
"So when I revisit it, it's like I'm dusting off that photo and absorbing myself in the moment."
