Sir Rod Stewart cancels tour dates after routine heart operation

Sir Rod Stewart has made the difficult decision to cut short the remainder of his US tour, following a medical evaluation.

The 81-year-old was due to perform shows in Ohio, Illinois and Mexico, as well as a six-night residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in September. However, taking to Rod's Instagram page, his management team have now confirmed the singer has undergone a 'routine coronary stent procedure'.

The statement read: 'Following further medical evaluation, Sir Rod Stewart has successfully undergone a routine coronary stent procedure. Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities. On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.

'Information regarding affected performances will be communicated by the respective promoters and venues'.

Fans of the 'Maggie May' hitmaker were quick to send their well-wishes.

One wrote: 'Get well soon Rod!!! Forever Young!!❤️', with another adding: 'Love you, Sir Rod ! So glad the procedure went well. All the best to you and get well soon'. (sic)

A third commented: '🙏Praying for you Sir Rod ❤️‍🩹Hope you’re feeling better soon!!!!', with another writing: 'LOVE YOU SIR. ♥️ Sending all my healing energy'. Another concerned fan then wrote: 'Heal up Rod , glad you’re okay'. (Sic)

Various health problems have forced Rod to cancel a number of performances over in America over the last few months.

After medical concerns, Rod was forced to postpone shows in both Cincinnati and Cleveland, as well as cancelling a show in Nevada back in May, due to being on vocal rest. He was then unable to perform in San Diego after being diagnosed with a respiratory infection.
