Jack Osbourne has revealed that a “phenomenal” actor has been cast to play his late-great dad Ozzy Osbourne in an upcoming movie biopic.

In an interview with Ozzy’s best friend Billy Morrison on his SiriusXM show, Jack gave an update on the progress of the long-gestating Ozzy Osbourne film.

"We are in full steam in the next phase of development with this movie. That's an acted movie that we've been developing with Sony studios for, like, six years already,” Jack said.

Asked what actor will play Ozzy in the movie, Jack responded: "We have our decided pick, and I can't say anything, but it's a phenomenal, phenomenal actor. We have a director attached, and we're doing a rewrite right now."

When Billy Morrison said Ozzy would have “got a kick out of” a movie being made about his life, Jack responded: "Oh, he would. And all he kept saying — I'd give him updates: 'Oh, we met with this guy', and 'this is happening'. And he just would go, 'I don't give a s---. Just tell me when it's out so I can go see it.'"

Speaking back stage at Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning concert in July 2025, Jack Osbourne said of the film: “It's going to be raw. We are not pulling any punches, we are really laying it all out."

Jack continued at the time: "The director is absolutely phenomenal. I can't say who he is, but we are very lucky to have him and he is a die-hard fan.

"If the evil overlords of Hollywood give us the green light, we could be filming in the spring, so maybe it will be out by the summer of 2027."

Ozzy Osbourne

It’s unclear whether this Ozzy biopic is a different movie to the one Sharon Osbourne has been teasing since 2021, or whether it's a revised version.

Sharon told Variety at the time that the movie will focus on her relationship with Ozzy over a 20 year period.

"It starts the day we meet and will focus on how our lives were totally different but very similar in ways: I was brought up by a powerful, successful father (Black Sabbath, ELO and Small Faces manager Don Arden) and Ozzy was brought up extremely poor and somewhat abused,” Sharon said.

"It's definitely going to be a tearjerker. It's not going to be a sex-and-drugs movie at all. Ozzy is so much more than that. I would hate to be a cliché."

Take a look through other biopics about musicians due for release:

Bruce Springsteen - Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere (2025)

Bruce Springsteen's early career will be told through the release of Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, on 24th October 2025. The biopic stars Jeremy Allen White as the singer and Stephen Graham as his father.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is a film adaptation of Warren Zanes' fascinating telling of the making of the singer's 1982 'Nebraska' album. The album was created after Bruce's 1981 'The River Tour', which was a pivotal time in his life, which he only opened up about decades after the album's release.

Boy George - Untitled

In August 2024, Deadline reported that Culture Club singer Boy George will be getting a biopic. According to the publication, the biopic is currently in development and will feature music from the 80s icon as well as Culture Club and be an adaptation of Boy George's autobiographies, Take It Like A Man, Straight and Karma.

A name and release date has not yet been confirmed.

The Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing (Working Title)

The forthcoming Bee Gees biopic is yet to be given a confirmed name, but the film will follow the lives of brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb from their beginnings in Manchester, to their pop and disco superstardom. Barry Gibb, the last surviving member of the trio serves as executive producer.

Cher - Untitled

Back in 2021, Cher announced she would be the subject of a new musical biopic. She was set to co-produce the project, alongside Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, who produced the film adaptations of Mamma Mia!, the second of which she starred in.

A couple of years later in August 2023, Cher revealed that she was starting over with the biopic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cher said: "We are kind of starting again. It just wasn't working out, and we needed to adjust some of the things."

However, in December 2023, the singer revealed that it was 'very hard' to cast for the biopic. Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Cher said: "It is the hardest thing. I have lived too long and done so much, it is very hard to cast, and we haven't even finished the script."

Since 2023, not much has been said about the project.

Ronnie Spector - Be My Baby

A film following The Ronette's rise to fame as well as lead singer Ronnie Spector's personal life is in the making. American actress Zendaya has been chosen to play Ronnie. Although Ronnie sadly passed away on 12th January 2022, she was an executive producer on the film and chose Zendaya for the role.

While no further cast announcements have been made, director Barry Jenkins has been announced for the project. Barry has previously won an Oscar for Best Director, for his work on the 2016 film Moonlight.

U2 Netflix series - Untitled

A scripted series about U2 is in the early stages of development at Netflix, with director J.J. Abrams attached to the series, along with Anthony McCarten who wrote the script for the Bohemian Rhapsody film.

However, after Hollywood Reporter reported on the scripted series back in 2022, a further interview with Bono in May 2025 revealed that no progress has been made. As the Apple TV+ documentary Bono: Stories of Surrender was released in 2025, Bono told the publication: "No. We'll know it when it's right. We'll know it when it's ready.

"The U2 story is a bizarre one. It's a high school drama, really, slash Stranger Things. (Stories of Surrender) is the end of a four-year process of addressing the past, lifting stones, discovering a few creepy-crawlies underneath them, dealing with them, and now we move on (with new music). I hope that whatever I've uncovered in my own little opera, if it's of use to people, then I'm thrilled."

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne - Untitled

The late Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne and his wife Sharon will have their very own biopic, focusing on a 20-year period of their lives. The film is currently untitled, having been announced back in October 2021, and is set to feature Ozzy's music, with Sharon saying at the time: "Our relationship at times was often wild, insane and dangerous but it was our undying love that kept us together. We're thrilled to partner with Sony Pictures and Polygram to bring our story to the screen."

Following the singer's sad death in July 2025, it was confirmed in August that the film was still being made, with a representative for Polygram Entertainment saying: "They're currently in negotiations with a director, which could be confirmed very soon," as reported by Variety.

Madonna - Untitled

Madonna is working on a film about her life. She is co-writing and co-directing the biopic, with Julia Garner in the lead role. Although it was reported that production of the film has been put on hold, Julia opened up about it in September 2025, saying that the film is still a "work in progress", after Madonna paused it briefly for her 'Celebration World Tour' in 2023 and 2024.
