Man arrested over fatal stabbing at Leith's Banana Flats

The 33-year-old suspect has been taken into custody as the force remains in the area

A 33-year-old man has been arrested over the death of a man in a stabbing at Edinburgh's Banana Flats.

Armed officers were called to a "disturbance" outside the Leith flats - properly know as Cables Wynd House - just before 10pm last night.

Footage online showed an ambulance and dozens of police cars at the scene.

The man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died later. Police Scotland said an arrest had been made and "inquiries are ongoing".

A cordon remains in place in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.40pm on Sunday, 5 July, 2026 police received a report of a disturbance outside Cables Wynd House, Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and a man was found with serious injuries.

“He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died a short time later.

“A 33-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.”
