People in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire are being urged to watch out for scams as we head into the winter months.

There’s worries about cold calling for housing installations and fake messages about winter fuel payments.

Andy Waller is the neighbourhood sgt for Orchard Park - he says it’s important to check any offers carefully and report suspicious behaviour.

Andy said:

"I'd encourage people to check for ID. Don't let anyone into your house until you verify who they are. Once you're comfortable, they should have some valid identification. But if you're not comfortable, contact the police on 1 0 1. Let us know that it's happening so we can get patrols in the area to potentially check these people out.

"I think it's absolutely vital that people are more aware of fraudulent behaviour. Around Christmas, people may feel a bit isolated, so it's important that they know they can pick up the phone.

"If anyone feels like they're being the victim of a scam, they need to contact the police straight away by contacting us on 1 0 1 or even going into the local police station, so we can offer that appropriate advice and check."
