Man jailed for attacking pregnant girlfriend and killing their unborn baby
He's been sentenced to 16-years in prison
A man who violently assaulted his then 17-year-old girlfriend, resulting in the loss of their unborn son, has been jailed for 16-years.
19-year-old Stefan Marin, who's from Hull, was found guilty of child destruction, grievous bodily harm with intent, non-fatal strangulation, false imprisonment, and perverting the course of justice.
Hull Crown Court heard how he attacked the victim over a four-hour period in March 2025: punching, kicking, strangling and scalding her, targeting her stomach.
Marin walked her into an alleyway after the assault, which took place at his home, and left her there to make her own way back to her address.
She was found collapsed in the street by a member of the public that same evening.
Scans revealed that their baby, who was 29 weeks gestation, died.
Marin was arrested the following day.
Victim statement
In a victim statement to the court she said, “I am grateful to still be here, I will live my life for my son, as he will always be with me in my heart and he will be watching over me. I will move forward with my life not in grief, but in peace, knowing you (Marin) can’t hurt me or anyone else anymore.”
Detective's comments
“The level of violence inflicted on this young woman was beyond comprehension, and the tragic loss of her unborn son is something no one should ever have to endure", Detective Chief Inspector Jon Cross, who oversaw the investigation, said.
Officer in the case, Detective Sergeant Clare Midwood, said: “This has been one of the most distressing cases I have ever worked on. The bravery this young woman has shown, from the moment officers first found her, through months of recovery, and ultimately giving her evidence in court, has been extraordinary."
