Attempted murder arrest for woman who drove into people in Cleethorpes

Officers say a white Jeep reportedly swerved off the road and into pedestrians on the path

A 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following reports a Jeep crashed into pedestrians on a path in Cleethorpes.

Emergency services say they received calls at around 7pm on Tuesday (5th December) that people had been hit by a white Jeep on St Peters Avenue.

The car reportedly swerved off the road and onto the path.

Multiple people were assessed for minor injuries at the scene including a woman on a mobility scooter.

Officers believe the driver knew some of those she reportedly crashed into.

Leading the investigation, Detective Inspector Tom Kelly said: “I understand an incident of this nature will cause concern amongst the local community, and whilst we are in the early stages of our investigation, at this time we do believe some of the people involved in the collision are known to each other.

“I can confirm a 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. She currently remains in custody while enquiries continue.

“Officers are conducting extensive CCTV enquiries, along with speaking to witnesses and local businesses and we are continuing to establish the full circumstances. We would urge anyone with any information or concerns to please speak to officers whilst they’re out and about.
