A nightclub in Hull that has been open for 46 years has closed and is being put up for sale.

The owners of Spiders Nightclub announced the news in a post on the club's Facebook page.

They said the club closed because of "personal and external situations".

The club will be sold on the open market, including the freehold.

The owners said the closure would come as a great shock to many customers.

They said: 'We know closing the club will come as a great shock to many of you, as the club is financially sound and doing well, but there comes a time, after 46 years of loving our club and what it gave to the people of Kingston upon Hull, that now, is the right time to hopefully pass it on to others, who will carry it forward with the same enthusiasm, idealism and integrity, that we started so many years ago.'

They added: 'Take care and thanks for being a part of our journey.'

Interest in buying the club

In a second notice, the owners said they had been overwhelmed with messages about buying the club.

They asked anyone who is truly interested to apply for more information by email.

The club is being sold freehold, with all fixtures and stock included.

Full accounts and documentation will be made available to all viable interested parties.

The owners said it would be advantageous if requests were made by a solicitor, and that all irrelevant requests would be ignored.
