Councillors give go-ahead to new village west of Scunthorpe
The site’s main access will be via the M181 / A1077(M) roundabout
Plans for a new 550-home village west of Scunthorpe have been approved by councillors.
The scheme covers around 140 acres of land near Burringham and includes new homes, shops and other community facilities, along with new roads and infrastructure.
There'll also be parks and open spaces, with walking and cycling routes linking the development to Scotter Road.
The plans include a new road connection from the existing M181 roundabout, which council leader Rob Waltham says was previously dubbed a “roundabout to nowhere”.
He said: “You have to put the infrastructure in place before you can unlock investment. I made that promise – what looked to some like a road to nowhere was always about creating the conditions for somewhere new to be built.”
The development will be built in phases, with the infrastructure put in place before further housing is brought forward.
