Radio system alerts lead to shop theft suspect arrested in Cleethorpes
Wanted woman detained after shop staff tip-off using GRIP Shop Watch
A radio system designed to tackle shop theft in Cleethorpes has once again proven effective, leading to the arrest of a woman wanted in connection with multiple thefts.
The Cleethorpes GRIP Shop Watch Radio system was instrumental yesterday, 14th July 2026, when a woman was spotted in a local shop.
Shop employees used the radio system to alert neighbouring stores and the Cleethorpes Neighbourhood Policing Team.
She was initially seen on the High Street before heading to St Peters Avenue, where shop staff provided continuous location updates, allowing police to quickly identify her.
Swift police response
Despite her attempt to flee, officers rapidly apprehended her on suspicion of involvement in seven shop thefts.
During her detention, officers discovered she had tried to conceal stolen items in a nearby bin.
Impact and prevention
Authorities note that shop theft affects genuine customers with increased prices and poses challenges for shop staff.
The Cleethorpes police emphasize their strategic approach in targeting offenders, aided by the GRIP Shop Watch Radio system and store CCTV, alongside cameras managed by North East Lincolnshire Council.
By utilising comprehensive monitoring tools, criminals are quickly identified and held accountable for their actions.
