Man who attempted to rape woman in Hull to be deported after jail term
Qudus Ajeyemi has been jailed for over five years
A man who attempted to rape and sexually assaulted a woman in Hull has been jailed for five and a half years, and will be deported after his sentence is up.
Qudus Ajeyemi, 27, of May Street in Hull, who identifies as Nigerian, was found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault following a trial at Hull Crown Court.
The court heard that in March 2023, the victim had been on a night out and returned to a property on Tavistock Street, where she was taken to a room by Ajeyemi.
She thought Ajeyemi, who told the victim his name was "Spartan", was just helping her by taking her to a friend’s room to rest, thinking he would leave.
Instead, he touched her and tried to force himself on her and rape her.
The next day he called the victim to apologise. She recorded the call which became key evidence at the trial.
As well as his jail sentence, Ajeyemi has been handed a seven-year restraining order and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Detective Sergeant Ethan Anderson, leading the investigation, said “Ajeyemi preyed on the woman, taking advantage of her and attempted to rape her in a space she ought to have been safe in, around friends.
“The trauma and emotional damage he caused will undoubtably stay with her for the rest of her life. The impact of this ordeal was only magnified by Ajeyemi’s refusal to admit what he had done, delaying the outcome for the victim and forcing her to endure a gruelling six-day trial."
