A puffin found in a "very weak condition" on Redcar beach in January has been released back into its natural habitat at RSPB Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire following a successful rehabilitation.

RSPB staff believe the puffin was affected by stormy weather, a condition likewise impacting other puffins washed ashore in northeast England.

Puffins are known to spend their winters at sea, returning to nest in burrows during the breeding season.

RSPB Bempton Cliffs boasts the UK's largest mainland seabird colony, hosting over 500,000 birds, including approximately 3,000 puffins.

The reserve played a crucial role in the puffin's recovery, contributing to the efforts to support bird populations challenged by harsh weather conditions.
