Essential road improvements are set to commence on Hornsea's South Promenade following prolonged severe weather that damaged the area.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has allocated £250,000 for repairs, upgrades, and drainage work on the road and footpath between Broadway and Hornsea Burton Road.

Preparation works are slated for 19th and 20th February.

During these days, the road will be closed from 8am to 5pm and reopened in the evenings.

The major work will begin on 23rd February.

For its duration, the road will remain closed around the clock.

A signed diversion route will be established, guiding traffic through Hornsea Burton Road, Trinity Road, Rolston Road, Southgate, Market Place, the Bull Ring Roundabout, and other designated areas.

While the Hornsea rescue slipway remains accessible, some temporary restrictions are anticipated for local businesses.

Pedestrians will have maintained access, but occasional diversions will be necessary for path work.

Britcon Ltd will carry out the project.

Councillor Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “Thank you in advance to local residents, drivers, businesses and visitors for bearing with us while we carry out these improvements.

“While this isn’t an ideal location to be closed, it is essential that we repair this road and strengthen it against the elements before the summer season begins."

He encouraged drivers and pedestrians to adhere to diversions for timely completion.
