Police seize 46 e-scooters and e-bikes in national safety crackdown
Operation targets illegal vehicle use threatening road safety
During a national campaign aimed at enhancing road safety, police have seized 46 illegally used e-scooters and e-bikes across the region.
The two-week operation, from 2nd June to 14th June 2026, saw the Roads Policing Team support a nationwide two-wheel campaign.
Their efforts addressed public concerns about the unlawful use of motorcycles, off-road bikes, and e-scooters.
Inspector Neil Hutchins from the Roads Policing Unit praised the operation’s outcomes:
“I am extremely pleased with the results achieved during the last two weeks of action.”
Beyond vehicle seizures, numerous traffic stops were conducted and offence reports issued, alongside rider education and guidance.
Highlighting continuous efforts to mitigate road risks, Inspector Hutchins added:
“We know there is still more work to do, and we will continue to take action against any vehicle that poses a risk to road users and the wider community."
He urged individuals against purchasing e-scooters or illegal e-bikes for road use, noting:
“If a vehicle is being used unlawfully, we will take action and seize it where appropriate.”
Police encourage the public to report issues with illegal bike and scooter use, as community information aids in pinpointing problem areas and targeting offenders to protect road safety.
