Roads Policing Unit backs Op Spotlight campaign against dangerous driving
Efforts focus on the fatal four driving offences this July
This July, officers from the Roads Policing Unit are supporting Operation Spotlight, a National Police Chiefs Council initiative targeting the "fatal four" driving offences.
These offences include speeding, using a mobile phone while driving, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, and not wearing a seatbelt – leading causes of serious and fatal collisions on roads.
Roads Policing Inspector Neil Hutchins emphasised the increased risk posed by more travellers, especially as the weather warms and summer holidays commence.
The combination of World Cup events, warm weather, and holidays prompt additional motorists to venture onto unfamiliar roads.
In response, officers will increase their presence and take decisive action against reckless driving behaviour.
Inspector Hutchins urged drivers to slow down, avoid using phones, refrain from drinking or drug use while driving, and always wear a seatbelt.
His message stressed the potentially devastating consequences of poor driving decisions.
The public is encouraged to report road traffic offences and dangerous driving by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency when safe to do so.
Video footage of suspected offences can be submitted through Op Snap, assisting in identifying and acting against dangerous drivers.
