Grimsby Auditorium witnessed a turquoise tidal wave of Reform gains

Author: Ivan Morris PoxtonPublished 8th May 2026

Reform UK are now the largest party on North East Lincolnshire Council.

Grimsby Auditorium witnessed a turquoise tidal wave of Reform gains as the party swept the board in 14 out of 15 wards.

The only ward not to fall to Reform was East Marsh, where long-standing Liberal Democrat Cllr Steve Beasant was re-elected.

The results mean the council remains in no overall control, with no one party with a majority of the 42 total councillors.

Compared to when the seats were up for election in 2022, the Conservatives lost nine councillors, Labour four, and the Independent Group one. On the night,

Reform gained 13 overall with the re-election of Cllr Oliver Freeston – who defected from the Conservatives two years ago – making 14 in total. The council’s political make-up is now 14 Reform UK, 11 Labour, 10 Conservatives, four Independents for North East Lincolnshire, and three Liberal Democrats.
